For many years, amateur radio operators have raved about Firestik's 2 meter mobile antenna (Model 2M4) because of its outstanding performance. People were so elated with the performance of the mobile whip that they pieced together a base antenna that used the mobile whip as its radiating element. The end result was discovering that the base antenna performed even better than the mobile antenna.
The radiating element is a 6dBi 5/8 wave design. The core material is 3/8" (9.5mm) solid fiberglass that is wound with 19ga heavy insulated copper wire. The radiating element is approximately 45" long (114cm). All of this is covered with white, UV stabilized PVC shrink tubing. The antenna base threads are 3/8"-24.
A combination angle bracket, u-bolt, hub plate and antenna stud is central to the assembly of the base antenna. This assembly will mount to the top of any mast up to 1.5" (38mm) in diameter. The kit comes with four (4) structural aluminum (6061) radials that measure 1/8"x1/2"x20" (3mm x 13mm x 51cm). Each is pre-drilled to mount to the hub plate. The antenna stud utilizes a standard SO-239 base for easy hook-up with any UHF (PL-259) terminated coaxial cable. For static and electrical discharge concerns, see the A28 arrestor connector.
The hub plate is a unique item that we designed to bring this base antenna together as a commercial kit. For the hobbyist, it will offer numerous opportunities to be creative.
The top to bottom height of the entire assembly is a mere 49" (124cm) and the diameter of the radial circle is 44" (112cm). All mounting and assembly hardware is included.
This antenna is great for marine applications.
